About Tawainna Houston, ND, MDiv
Dr. Tawainna Houston is a culturally-rooted doctor, educator, and wellness advocate whose life’s work is grounded in a deep spiritual calling to be a beacon of light, hope, and healing to the Black community. With over a decade of experience as a licensed Naturopathic Doctor, she brings together the disciplines of social science, medical science, and cultural wellness to create transformative healing experiences that speak directly to the unique needs of African Americans.
Black CELL Consulting — a company dedicated to advancing wellness and cultural healing within the Black professional community. Through holistic education programs, speaking engagements, and strategic partnerships, she leads initiatives that address the historical and contemporary barriers to Black health, guiding individuals and organizations toward sustainable well-being.
Her approach to wellness is both clinical and cultural. After beginning her career in counseling, pastoral care, and social services for underserved communities, Dr. Houston pursued additional training to care for the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. She earned her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the National University of Health Sciences, a Master of Divinity with a concentration in Pastoral Care & Counseling from Princeton Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Howard University.
Dr. Houston has served as an adjunct instructor teaching cultural competency in medical education, presented at national medical conferences, and advised organizations on improving health equity. She has participated in international medical service trips to Haiti and Nicaragua and was co-chair of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion committee for the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians for three years.
As a published author, her newest book, Black Wellness Barriers: Understanding the Root Cause of Disease Vulnerabilities as a Pathway Towards Restoring Health, explores the historical, social, and biological roots of health disparities and provides a culturally-informed roadmap to healing for the Black community.
Whether in clinical care, community education, or keynote speaking, Dr. Houston leads with conviction, compassion, and cultural clarity. Her mission remains unwavering: to illuminate the path to collective Black wellness through ancestral wisdom, spiritual purpose, and holistic health practices.
